It takes a village to raise a child.

The wisdom of the Nigerian proverb is true. Everyone needs a village, but everyone does not have a village around them.

Be the Village exists to partner Christ-following adults with children who need a mentor in their life. Positive relationships change everything. Together we can be the village that so many in our community need.  Love, encouragement, and investment further build opportunities for success now and in the future.

What is Be the Village?

We are calling ordinary people who are passionate about families and children to invest relationally in the lives of families who need a village. All people do best when they experience strong, positive relationships in all parts of their lives.

Be the Village will connect a well-trained adult with one child to build a mentoring relationship. Mentorship will look unique for each relationship, but all relationships will have the following in common…

Trusted and Trained Adults

We train all of our mentors and equip them with ongoing education, support, and accountability to help mentors show up consistently in the lives of their mentees.

Fun!

Our mentors are creative and love working with kids; there is no shortage of fun! Your child’s interests will be a part of the fun.

Family Partnership

Our mentors walk alongside the mentee’s family as a partner. They work and communicate with parents to make sure everyone is comfortable and on the same page.

  • We believe that consistency and time are crucial for impact. We ask that mentors make a minimum commitment of investing in their mentoring relationship for at least 3 years and meet with their mentee twice per month in person.
What kind of activities will be a part of a mentoring relationship?

The fun activities a child and mentor do together will vary according to the child’s interests. This could include attending sporting events, playing at the park, working on homework together, or spending time with the mentor’s family. As the relationship grows, mentors can intentionally take a more spiritual focus by investing time in Bible study, discipleship, or church.
